‘Be In Their Boots:’ Edina Fire and Police departments to host open house
Edina, Minn., October 9, 2007 – Be in their boots! The Edina Police and
Fire departments will host an open house from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday,
Oct. 14, at the South Metro Public Safety Training Facility, 7525 Braemar
Blvd. The event will be held rain or shine and will include many fun and
educational activities.
The open house will allow community members of all ages the opportunity to
get a feeling for what it’s like to “be in the boots” of a firefighter or
police officer by sitting in a fire truck, ambulance or police vehicle;
touring the training facility; trying on in gear; spraying water from a fire
hose and watching demonstrations put on by K9s Kodiak and Diesel along with
their handlers, Officers Kevin Rofidal and Mike Seeger.
The Edina Fire Department’s Special Operations Truck will also be open, and
team members will put on rappelling demonstrations as well as display
automobile extrication techniques. Edina SWAT members will be present with
the Police Department’s BEARCAT vehicle.
“This year’s Open House is a joint venture, meant to show the community how
much we appreciate their support. The Police and Fire departments work very
closely, so to hold a joint Open House like this demonstrates our dedication
to keeping the City of Edina safe in all aspects of the word,” said Fire
Chief Marty Scheerer.
