Edina Fire Department quashes roof fire

Edina, Minn., July 10, 2006 – The Edina Fire Department responded to a weekend fire in the 7200 block of Ohms Lane.

At 4 p.m. July 7, the Edina Fire Department was alerted to heavy smoke billowing from the roof of a one-story building located in Edina’s industrial area west of Minnesota Highway 100. Crews controlled much of the fire from the ground before going to the roof to remove burning roofing materials, sending the materials to the ground and extinguishing them. Crews also removed part of the roof to ensure that fire had not crept underneath the shingles.

Roughly 2,000 square feet of roof was damaged by the fire, including the roof hatch and a rooftop fan. The interior of the building sustained water damage, but the fire did not expand into the building.

Though some disruptions were caused to offices in the building, workers were able to return to work the following Monday morning.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but the Fire Department does not believe it was arson. For more information, contact Fire Marshal Tom Jenson, 952-826-0337, or visit www.CityofEdina.com/fire.
