The Dynamic Duo

Pat Undis and Karen Knutson star in this instructional watercolor video about two artists who love to paint. Award-winning artists, Undis and Knutson have been teaching watercolor for many years.

Undis starts by wetting the whole paper and floating colors and then wipes out her whites. Then, she paints wet glazes on dry paper and paints with only four colors. She can mix any color using just those four colors. Her video demonstration is a still life painting of onions. She will show you how to make them glow!

Knutson uses a full palette of colors and loves to double-load and triple-load to produce beautiful colors.

She works very abstractly, starting with a wet-into-wet layer and letting the paint "tell her what to do next." Knutson loves the use of collage to add texture to her contemporary paintings. Her video demonstration is a watercolor and collage abstract painting.

Even though Undis and Knutson have different painting styles, they both believe in the same rules that make a great painting. Concept, design, values, shape simplification, color temperature and center of interest are always stressed at their workshops.
