The residents of Edina enjoy an exceptionally high quality of life and value
a love of culture and the arts. To this end, the Edina Public Art Committee, comprised
of residents and Edina Community Foundation and Art Center representatives, was
convened to enhance the beauty of Edina’s public spaces with two- and three-dimensional
art. Members include Chairwoman Linda Kieffer, Bernice Amacher, Bradley Benn, Dick Crockett,
Rick Fesler, Pat Greer, Diana Hedges, Betty Hemstad and Lois Ring.
This new public art program has already begun in City Hall with rotating exhibits
of local artists’ paintings throughout departments. Pick up an “Edina City Hall
Art Guide” (available in the lobby) for a quick overview of the current works on
display. In addition, for permanent display, the ceramic planters were created exclusively
for City Hall by Art Center faculty member Adama Sow, our talented Artist in Residence
from Senegal.
Yet to come are possible interior stained glass panels depicting Edina’s mill
heritage and an outdoor sculpture in the plaza entrance. The Edina Public Art Committee
has received seed money from the City in the 2005 budget cycle to jump start these
projects, with additional funds to come from corporate and private donors. Donations
to make this program possible may be made to the Edina Community Foundation, 952-833-9573.
Art adds richness to our environment, defines who we are, and creates a sense of
pride in our community with a tangible legacy that will last for generations!
