Section 130 - Election of Council Members
130.01 Date of Election. The regular City election shall
be held biennially on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in
every even numbered year.
130.02 Term. Each elected Council Member, including the
Mayor, shall serve for a term of four years. The term of an elected Council
Member will commence on the first business day of January following the election
at which the Council Member was elected.
130.03 Staggering of Terms. Two Council Members, other
than the Mayor, shall be elected at each biennial City election. The Mayor shall
be elected at every other biennial City election.
130.04. Filling of Vacancies
in Offices. Each vacancy in the office of the Mayor or any Council Member
shall be filled by Council appointment until an election is held at the same
time as a regular city election as provided in M.S. 412.02, subdivision 2a, and
no special election to fill a vacancy will be held at other than the same time
as the regular City election.
